National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (October)

NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH:


       
       Cyber security safeguards the data and integrity of computer technologies that are linked to or are part of a company's network. Its purpose is to defend those technologies from all threats across the whole life cycle of a cyber attack.

       Cybersecurity is crucial because it protects all forms of data from being stolen or lost.. Sensitive data, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), personal information, intellectual property, data, and business and government information systems are all examples of this.



Cybersecurity awareness month theme:

        "Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart" is the overall theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2021. Individuals and organizations are encouraged by the theme. To assume responsibility for their own cyberspace zone. Our increasingly networked world will be safer and more resilient for everyone if everyone does their part in establishing tighter security policies, Increasing public awareness and teaching vulnerable communities, or employee training.

        
         During the month of October, the National Cyber Security Alliance will focus its promotions and outreach on the following topics. Partners are welcome to join us, but they are also encouraged to develop their own areas of concentration that are important to their company:

 The first day of the campaign is October 1st.

1. The National Cyber Security Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency invite you to join us in celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2021 in October, as we raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and ensure that everyone has the information and tools they need to be safer and secure online. "Play a Role. #BeCyberSmart."  
 
 Week 1 (October 4th): Be Cyber Smart.

1. As our lives become more reliant on technology, nearly all personal and commercial data is stored on internet-connected platforms, which may turn into a gold mine for bad actors.
2. The first week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month will focus on security measures and general cyber hygiene to keep your data secure.
3. Begin by learning the fundamentals of cybersecurity. Using multi-factor authentication, creating secure passwords, storing up your data, and updating your software are all good places to start. 
4. This is a fantastic approach to #BeCyberSmart and Do Your Part!

The 11th day of October (Week 2) is dedicated to fighting phishing.

1. Since the COVID epidemic began in 2020, phishing attempts and frauds have grown in popularity, accounting for more than 80% of all reported security incidents. 
2. Week 2 of Cybersecurity Awareness Month will emphasize the necessity of being cautious of emails, text messages, or chat boxes from strangers or people you don't recognize. 
3. Consider if you want to click on any questionable emails, links, or attachments, and if you can, report any suspicious emails!

Week 3 (18th of October): Explore, Experience, and Share (Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week)

1. Week 3 of Cybersecurity Awareness Month will include the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education's Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week (NICE).
2. This is a week-long campaign that encourages and motivates people to consider professions in cybersecurity. 
3. The dynamic profession of cybersecurity is continuously increasing and has something for everyone, whether it's students, veterans, or those looking for a career shift.

The fourth week of October (Week 4) is dedicated to cybersecurity First

1. Week 4 is all about prioritizing security.
2. This involves incorporating security into products and operations for enterprises.
3. Make cybersecurity training a requirement for new hires, and provide employees with the tools they need to keep the company safe.
4. Individuals should keep cybersecurity in mind while they communicate on a regular basis. Do your homework before buying a device or an internet product. 5. Consider your security and privacy settings when setting up a new device or app, and update default passwords.
6. Cybersecurity should not be a last-minute consideration.
